About Us

We are your friends, family, and neighbors. We are Montanans.

We cultivate a culture of giving so Montana communities can flourish.

Here at the Montana Community Foundation, we care about Montana. It's not just the place where we live and work, it's our home. Since 1988, the Montana Community Foundation has worked tirelessly to create permanent philanthropy and build stronger communities. MCF manages more than $160 million in assets and administers more than 1,400 philanthropic funds and planned gifts. Our work with donors, charitable organizations, cities and towns plays a critical role in both philanthropic and community development. Since our founding, MCF has reinvested more than $100 million in Montana through scholarships, grants, and programs.

A dedicated board of directors, as well as an experienced and professional staff, provide personal service and local expertise to deliver the greatest impact for your charitable giving and help ensure Montana's future for the generations of Montanans to come.

Our Commitment to Excellence

When you partner with us in your philanthropy, we know you're placing an incredible amount of trust in us as an organization. Through our accreditation from the National Standards Board for U.S. Community Foundations, we demonstrate our commitment to not only following legal guidelines, but also our commitment to operational excellence, accountability, and sound policies and procedures.

What is a Community Foundation?

Community foundations help build and strengthen community and bring together people and organizations that want to make a positive impact in the world. They are tax-exempt public charities that guide philanthropy and are dedicated to improving the quality of life in the areas they serve. Individuals, families, businesses and organizations work with community foundations to create permanent charitable funds that help meet the challenges of changing times. The foundation invests and administers these funds.

For donors, community foundations offer a range of charitable giving options and philanthropic advice that help fulfill donors' charitable and financial goals. For the geographic region they serve, community foundations provide leadership, expertise and capital to address social issues and serve as a resource for nonprofit, civic, government and philanthropic organizations.

There are more than 750 community foundations in the United States, including 76 in Montana alone. Learn more about our local community foundations.

We want to be your partner in philanthropy. Together we can ensure a strong future for Montana.
