Celebrating Montana's Community Foundations and Philanthropy
November 11, 2024
As we observe Community Foundation Week and look forward to National Philanthropy Day on November 15, we have a special opportunity to reflect on the incredible impact of Montana’s Local Community Foundations (LCFs). These foundations are the heartbeat of our communities, playing a vital role in driving positive change and fostering resilience across our state.
One remarkable story of generosity comes from the LeVeque Family Trust, whose recent donation to the Powder River Community Endowment Fund totals an astounding $1.5 million. This transformative estate gift will help fund scholarships for local students, empowering them with the resources needed to pursue their educational goals. The LeVeque Family’s contribution serves as a powerful reminder of how philanthropy can secure a brighter future for young Montanans.
Our local foundations are also there for communities in times of crisis. The Community Foundation of Northern Rosebud County has provided critical disaster relief funding to support those impacted by the recent Remington Fire. This support highlights the strength and solidarity of Montana’s rural communities and their commitment to helping each other during difficult times. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of Montanans, always ready to lend a helping hand.
This week also provides us with moments of celebration. The Valley County Community Foundation marked its 25th anniversary last week with a special dinner at the Glasgow Elk’s Club, celebrating years of dedicated service to the community. In September, the West Yellowstone Foundation hosted its annual Happening event, bringing the community together for a night of fun and fundraising. Additionally, the Absarokee Community Foundation recently held its Hometown Heroes Dinner, honoring residents who make a meaningful difference in their community.
National Philanthropy Day is a reminder to recognize and celebrate the profound impact of philanthropy in our communities. It’s a day to honor the generosity and dedication of individuals and organizations working tirelessly to make Montana a better place.
As we look to the future, we are inspired by the countless ways our community foundations contribute to building a brighter, more resilient Montana. The impact of these efforts will continue to shape the lives of Montanans for generations to come. Thank you to everyone who supports and advances this mission—together, we are making a lasting difference.
