Background

Jadie Butterfly was born on August 31, 2005, on the Blackfeet Reservation. She graduated from Browning High School in 2023, where she excelled as a natural-born athlete in Cross Country, Track, and Cheerleading. Jadie earned numerous awards for her academic and athletic achievements, and her family was proud of her accomplishments, especially her spot on the varsity Cross Country team since her freshman year. After high school, Jadie attended the University of Montana to study Radiology, with the dream of returning to Browning to help her community.

Tragically, Jadie’s life and her future were cut short at the hands of her boyfriend, who killed her with a .357 Revolver in late December of 2024. Her family continues to pursue justice in her name.

Her relatives described Jadie as a vibrant 19‑year‑old whose presence lit up rooms: She was funny, strong, independent. She had a lot of dreams in life that she was actively working on, and she wanted to get a degree and come back to Browning. Her goal was to come back to the reservation and help our people.
