4 Tips for Creating a Better Work-Life Balance

Oh, the elusiveness. One of my favorite and least favorite topics - work/life balance. I’m fairly certain everyone is constantly working on this without knowing what the end goal even looks like. Or maybe you’re not working on it and you’ve got it figured out? If that’s you - please do us all a favor and tune us into your magical workings.
I for one, am constantly working on this and wondering if I’ll ever “achieve” it. Between juggling a full-time (usually more) job, maintaining relationships and finding some version of sanity, many times I wonder if this even exists and if anyone ever “gets there”.
Good ol’ Wikipedia stated:
“Work–life balance is a concept including proper prioritizing between "work" (career and ambition) and "lifestyle" (health, pleasure, leisure, family and spiritual development/meditation). This is related to the idea of lifestyle choice.”
A few key things about this: prioritization and choice. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, choosing what is important to you and prioritizing accordingly is key to maintaining a successful work-life balance.
Below are four tips that can help you find your balance with work and the rest of life!
Set Boundaries
Say no to things that don’t light your fire. This is not to say that you shouldn’t take on that new project, try something new or meet up with new people. However, it is crucial that your schedule isn’t simply full of things that you’re not stoked about. If you’re constantly doing things that don’t speak to you, you’ll eventually pour from an empty cup.
Maximize Your Time
I’m assuming you don’t spend 24-hours at an office, so what you do outside will either drain you or light you up. Just like the above, sometimes you need to set boundaries with yourself. Get off Instagram and go do something you LOVE. Whatever it is, make the time for it. No excuses.
Prioritize Your Health
I’m sure this isn’t new information, below is what matters:
- Eat real food
- Move once a day (it doesn’t have to be intense!)
- Find ways to relax
- Get your sleep
