Background
The Kay McMillan Nursing Scholarship was established through a generous bequest from long-time Butte resident, Kay McMillan, who passed away in 2014. Kay was a graduate of the Montana Tech Nursing Program and spent most of her nursing career working at the Montana State Hospital in Warm Springs. Her experience as a Montana Tech nursing student changed her life and allowed her to have a successful and productive career. This scholarship is designed to benefit a Montana Tech Nursing Program student (new or non-traditional) who demonstrates a strong commitment to community health.
Criteria
Required Criteria
The following are required criteria for this scholarship. Applicants must:
- be a graduating senior enrolled in the pre-nursing program at Montana Tech, be a current pre-nursing student at Montana Tech, or be a nursing student in the Montana Tech Nursing Program.
- demonstrate financial need.
- demonstrate a minimum pre-nursing (high school) GPA of 2.0 or higher (or equivalent).
- demonstrate a strong commitment to community health.
Preferred Criteria
Preference in consideration will be given to applicants who are:
- are Butte-Silver Bow high school graduates.
- are nontraditional students. Strong preference will be given for students who possess one or more of the following characteristics: older than typical age, attending college part-time, independent of their parents, working full-time while attending college, have dependents, are a single parent, or who have achieved high school equivalency (HiSET or GED credential).
