Giving Back with Impact: How Planned Gifts Support Montana Charities
September 30, 2025
Do you want to make a meaningful gift to your favorite Montana charity, turn your assets into income, and receive tax benefits?
At the Montana Community Foundation (MCF), we help generous Montanans do just that— We help you shape Montana’s future through giving. Create lasting impact for the place and causes you love and care about, while meeting your financial and planning goals.
Life income gifts—such as charitable gift annuities (CGAs) and charitable remainder trusts (CRTs)—are powerful tools that combine charitable giving with reliable income and immediate tax benefits. Whether you want to support a local community, your favorite nonprofit, or a specific cause, these gifts help you give back while taking care of yourself or the people you love.
Here’s how they work:
- You make an irrevocable gift of cash, stock, or other appreciated assets to MCF.
- You (or someone you choose) receive a steady income for life or a set number of years.
- After that, the remaining funds support charitable work in Montana through a fund you help create.
When you establish a life income gift through MCF, you also receive a charitable income tax deduction at the time of the gift and the Montana Endowment Tax Credit. These gifts can be tailored to your unique goals—whether that’s simplicity and fixed payments through a CGA, or greater flexibility and tax planning with a CRT.
But more than a financial tool, this is a way to shape the future of our state. If just 5% of what Montanans leave behind were directed to charitable causes, it would generate hundreds of millions of dollars for our communities. That’s the power of legacy giving—and MCF is here to make it easy and meaningful.
Whether you’re ready to give now or planning for the future, we’re here to help you explore what’s possible. Let’s work together to turn your generosity into lasting impact—for you, your loved ones, and all of Montana.
